I awoke this morning with a splitting headache. As I staggered to the bathroom I blew past the mirror without a glance, fearful of the report. I hadn't felt this awful since I can't remember when.

Given that it is obviously important to some people to call this atrocity an act of terrorism, it seems worth asking both if most people can agree on what the word means and why it matters what we call such brutal acts. To deal with the first question, while there have long been debates in journalism about when it is appropriate to describe politically motivated atrocities as acts of terrorism, most discussions of what is and is not a terrorist act seem to focus on attacks carried out against civilians.

Terrorism flourishes in part because there are so many people in many parts of the world who are prepared to make excuses   -Michael Walzer

There is a study out today that is damaging to the Democrats efforts to pass health care in the Senate. On Saturday, when constituents cannot contact their Senators' offices because they'll be closed, the United States Senate will vote on a cloture motion to debate the health care legislation. This is important — a vote in favor of cloture on the motion to proceed (a parliamentary issue) is, in effect, a vote for the health care legislation.

It was once stated on this Blog site by NemoKC that after the terror attack at Fort Hood that American Muslims and thier spokespeople and organizations denounced the act. THIS is what I would like to say on this matter and in general about what I see as a lack of courage and conviction of American Muslims to denounce the violence of thier own. The recent Islamist terror attack against American warriors preparing for combat deployment from Fort Hood, Texas, serves as a harsh reminder that the threat of t

The act of terrorism at Fort Hood reminds us all that regardless of what the Obama/Pelosi Team or the elite media call it we are at war with Islamic fascism. Americans must rise up and remind our elected officials, Republican and Democrat, that we will not sit idly by while they bow at the altar of political correctness. Americans must, because President Obama and Nancy Pelosi will not, demand that outrages such as the massacre at Fort Hood be labeled for what they are and treated for what they are—acts o

Hood. The question of split loyalties inside the military, especially during a time of war, is urgent and troublesome. Twentynine Palms: Some of the Marines I spoke with during the 90s - well over ten years ago - told me about radical Saudi clerics trying to recruit them in the supply lines in Kuwait.

Let's see, not long ago a few Islamic extremists from Pakistan, opened fire on unarmed citizens, shouting "Allahu Akbar" (Allah is the greatest) in Mumbai, India. They were promptly, and accurately, called terrorists. When Islamic extremists open fire on unarmed citizens in Israel, Australia, Pakistan, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, Spain, England, and numerous other countries, they are all accurately portrayed, and identified, as terrorists.

With all that's been written and said about what occurred on Fort Hood it's difficult to come up with something truly fitting to say. We all know it was an obvious act of terrorism committed by a devout Muslim, yet why is it so hard for so many, including the Army, to state the obvious? We also know the answer to that question, don't we?

Our history of racial prejudice has not prepared us well for dealing with today's multi-racial, multi-cultural society. It continues to be difficult for many of us to reach a level of comfort with those who differ from us, whether in race, ethnicity, religion, sexual preference, or even age and gender. Some still harbor secret prejudices, while others are overly concerned they might appear to be prejudiced.
